More than 30,000 pets enter our local shelters each year, but sadly all may not find a new home. Adopt Love Adopt Local, an initiative of the Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare (PAAW), aims to solve this issue by connecting adopters with a collaboration of local shelters and rescues to increase adoptions and awareness. Through research, education, and an annual, community-wide adoption event we intend for every displaced companion pet in our community, to have a happy, forever home.
Adopt Love Adopt Local is a one-day mega-adoption animal fair designed to help hundreds of our community’s homeless pets find their forever homes.
Dozens of local animal groups will feature pets of all breeds, ages and backgrounds so every attendee can find their match, while local vendor and exhibitor booths will offer resources that can help them thrive as pet owners. Admission will be free.
The West Hall of the Tucson Expo Center at Irvington and Alvernon will serve as the event venue. This multi-purpose facility hosts over 200 events each year and provides convenient access to just over 33,000 square feet of interior space, with the option of expanding into an additional 38,000 square feet.
Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Adopt Love Adopt Local mega-adoption animal fair is proudly presented by the Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare (PAAW). PAAW is a unique coalition designed to collaboratively improve the welfare of animals in Pima County. Since November 2012, this volunteer coalition of shelter organizations, local business, rescue groups, veterinarians, animal welfare advocates, and other stakeholders has initiated a variety of strategies to address community-wide animal welfare issues. PAAW is a staff-supported fund of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.
There are over 30,000 pets entering our animal shelters and rescue groups every year in Pima County. By creating a family-friendly opportunity for Southern Arizonans to connect with local organizations, we will give animals a second chance at finding love and happiness, while celebrating the human-animal bond.
Last year over 2,000 people attended Adopt Love Adopt Local. 151 animals went home to their forever homes! This includes 83 dogs, 42 puppies, 12 cats and 14 kittens. Forty-six organizations participated: 28 rescue groups and 18 animal-related organizations. Over the 2-year history of this event 281 animals have been adopted!
